During winter, doesn’t nature feels a bit cooped up, as if it’s on hold?
And when nature has been cooped up for months, can the improbable come to pass?
Yet, winter is coming to a close. Soon the sheer possibility of spring will come crashing down upon us.
Vortex Delay!
We interrupt this reveille for a newsflash.
You may not realize that some of us here at 25 Acres are intimidated by the arrival of spring.
The issue is that we have lots-o-projects planned here for spring: planting the garden, installing a guest house, getting a UTV, ….
A scary number of things, actually.
Happily, we can put off being intimidated since mother nature seems inclined to keep spring at bay for a bit longer.
All the same, Mother nature’s kindness in extending winter raises a slight challenge here at 25 Acres.
You already know, faithful reader, that our experiment heating with wood ended early this year as we ran out of firewood. No more Wood-O-Meter(tm) for this year.
We do, however, now have a new question to tackle. Introducing the 25 Acres Home Energy Attrition Tracker (aka “Will there be HEAT?”).
Levels are dropping fast. Will we bottom out before the good folks at Valley Gas come and top us off?
In related news, Bo, our home energy auditor, visited us this past week. With a long face, he told us:
It’s sad, so very sad, how this place was built more as a summer camp than a winter home.
