25 Acre Woods Digest (2021-11-29): Rising Spirits in the Falling Temps
We hope you had a fabulous Thanksgiving. We did here!
Big week here. The 25 Acre Nuclears gathered for the full week (Zora, Zach, Michelle, and Chip). Our Sponsor took the week off of work and threw herself into cooking. So while it’s now time for her to return to the real world, so too it’s time for your humble correspondent to head back to the woodyard to work some of that off.
Just bucking a few logs in the woodyard.
But wait.
Since when does my hair blow in the breeze like that?
Hey, that’s Zora! Woman of the hour with the chainsaw, contributing to keeping the house toasty next year.
That wood Zora is bucking may be coming just in time.
Temps continue to drop here, now going below 20° at night. At the same time we’re running into a swath of softwoods in our woodpile. Hmmm … the end result is that our burn rate is skyrocketing … we’re not yet out of December yet we’re halfway through the January inventory.
In short, it looks like we might run through this year’s wood early. Which would mean dipping into next year’s wood this winter. Which would mean more to cut next year.
Your humble correspondent will plan to spend some quality time in the woods this coming spring. Think we’re gonna run out of trees?

The garden is officially in.
Check out the work of our crack photography team. Can you almost feel those last bits of garden soil schussing their way down to their bed?
Do you smell a Pulitzer for Feature Photography for the team?
Congrats to Zach, project designer and manager. Splitter of shale. Technician of terraces.
Stay tuned: the garlic will be first to be planted. In January.
(Editor’s Note: Like you, we’re not quite sure how that works. The bed will be frozen rock solid and under 2’ of snow. Hard-hitting reporting to come.)
Hey, do we have the winter hat for you!
The 25 Acres Team realizes that city dwellers moving to rural life face unique challenges.
Like how do you keep the noggin toasty when you also rely on reading glasses?
It’s time for solutions.
That’s why we are proud to introduce 25 Acres Outfitters, our new line of clothes, tools, and other necessities for city dwellers who have transitioned.
