Faithful readers, to help you keep track of our goings-on, we’ve commissioned a beautiful rendered map of the 25 Acre Woods. Available now in our new online shoppe. Or, because you subscribe, you can pirate it here.

Getting into the news, not much action on the woodpile this week. I’ve finished 1 of 3 rows for the 2nd “shed” (yet to be built). Our log pile has been depleted. Time to forage for trees, yay! What is this shot you say? You can see on the right how the right side of the row I was building collapsed when I was stacking. Then on the left, you can see how the left side collapsed later. Without shed walls to hold it in, there are some tricks to stacking. As they say, lessons were learned. We got there. |

Speaking of lessons learned, here’s the starting gun for the New Vineyard Experimental Half-Marat-hike. In which we hike the proposed trail for the 13.1 mile New Vineyard Classic Half Marathon. We took gravel roads, ATV trails, logging roads, and even a stretch of highway. For a bit, we wandered lost in the woods. Along the way, we climbed a bit more than the height of the Sears Tower. |
|
Here is Mile 8, where we are to turn down this road. NO TRESPASSING? Google Maps apparently doesn’t differentiate between public and private roads. About 200 yards down the road, I met the owner and her dog. Very friendly. After chatting, we agreed it would be best for the New Vineyard Classic to not take this route. |

One feature along: what a nice used front-loader for sale! Michelle has a terracing project in mind. But perhaps a tad late for Mother’s Day? Yet also perhaps in time for Father’s Day? There are trails to be cleared, logs to be pulled, and snow is coming. All said, though, the trail DID NOT stand up to the demands of the New Vineyard Classic. Stay tuned for the New Vineyard Experimental Half Marat-hike II: the Porter Lake Loop. To be tested in the coming week. |

BIG NEWS: The Great Matriarch has announced that she has pulled the trigger: moving to Maplewood. Whoo hoo! |
|
To demonstrate our enthusiasm, we will cut a commemorative Maple for our Wood pile. In addition, we’ll also commit to moving: we’re giving up Providence and moving full-time to the 25 Acre Woods. Aug 15 will be our last day. Michelle will work remotely, going into Providence maybe two days/month. So far, our mail has gone to Providence. Time to put up a mailbox, eh? |

Most Saturdays, Michelle & I play tourist in Maine. Yesterday, we went to Bangor, about a 90-minute drive. Home of the famous dog operas from the renowned Penobscot Theatre Company. We ate an actual meal in an actual restaurant. Felt weird! |
|
Downtown Bangor has actual multistory buildings. Haven’t seen them for a while. Hello to Our Sponsor, is she gracing the side of the Opera House? |

We held our annual festival for Loki, the Norse god of fire. Michelle: "Should we bring down a bucket with some water? Maybe hook up the hose? Chip: "Well, you know, they say you should. But such a hassle!" (For those keeping score, that takes us to 4521 to 6. That's times M was right vs C was right. Still, Loki seemed please by the marshmallows and beer, if we judge by the sprays of sparks he gave us when we fed his fire pine branches.)
