25 Acre Woods Digest (2021-06-13): Return To Civilization

We at the 25 Acre Digest hope you enjoyed this lull week just past: that peaceful time before the Two Weeks of Back-to-Back Birthdays. Looking ahead, we wish all the best to Steve, Francie, and the Great Matriarch for their birthdays!

Jumping to the end of the week, we headed back from Maine to Providence on Saturday. Gradually starting the long haul to the far south: Bethesda.

Along the drive, we stopped in a new town. Portland, Maine. I got confused. Is this actually Portland OR?

Here is the local kombuchery. Really.

We have discovered Maine’s hipster central. Which makes for a good breakfast (no, not here).

We’ve got mail!

Put this up. We didn’t tell the post office about it, as we’ll be out of town for a bit.

Nevertheless, the New Vineyard Post Office is not to be deterred. Two days later, we got our first mail. Apparently, our internet provider wants us to pay for our service. Huh.

Landscape shot of the week.

This should be a lovely valley featuring a string of lakes.

But today we face the Impenetrable Wall 'O Fog. A new feature not yet before seen. Oddly, it’s bright and clear where we are, 200 yards away.

Didn’t get pictures, but we did get back to work on storing wood for the winter.

Which inspired this special addition to the 25 Acres Online Shoppe.

Could this special be a just-in-time life-saver for those faithful readers who have not yet made up their mind on what 4x4 to get their partners for Father's Day (this one, or maybe this one, or how about this one). You know who you are.

Back in Providence: let the moving begin!

Albeit in slow motion.

Just starting to pack up the basement.

I regret to announce that MUSH has closed applications for Black Fly Season, seeing as how that insect apocalypse is now pretty much over for the year.

At the same time, speaking of special editions, the good news is that MUSH is now opening applications for Brown Moth Season.

Yep, it’s very exciting -- this year we face a rare Maine natural pest plague. Hence this unique opportunity to work with MUSH.
