Oh, ok faithful reader, were you not taken in thinking this an actual DeckCam(tm) shot? No sliding such nonsense by you.
We won’t see such as this for at least 30 days.
And, observant reader, if you’ve gotten this far, you’ll have noted our new look.
Yes, the 25 Acres Digest has, like so many newsletters these days, been acquired by a FAANG. So, we now sport a fancy new production staff, cucumber water in our refreshment nook, and a mountain of computer servers to offer you up these enticing pixels.
Or maybe we signed up for a free MailChimp account.
Ask yourself, dear reader, what would be the Mainely way?
And stay on your toes. There will be a test.
The 25 Acres Team is pleased to bring you yet another thought-provoking feature.
Yep, we’ve brought on a Gastronomic Observing & Offering Opinions Professional (GOOOP).
That’s right. A food critic.
Look forward for an occasional xxx screed xxx, err review, from the one we call “The Russian Judge”.
In fact, pull up a cup of coffee. Why not start off with a review?
On Saturday, it was Our Sponsor’s turn to organize our tourists-in-Maine day. We started off with breakfast here. And the GOOOP team reports ….
★★★★½
“This may be the best restaurant I’ve been to in Maine.”
“it’s actually okay.”

Took the Avalon in to have the oil changed.
This is my local garage. That’s Doug Churchill, who runs it and lives across the street. “Yep, this lift is pretty old. I guess it was an antique when my dad installed it in ‘77.”
Take a close look at the picture. Should changing the oil involve an acetylene torch? FWIW, Doug was a very thoughtful mechanic. I was impressed.
Doug also turns out the be the Chief of the New Vineyard Fire Department. Which means he was the guy driving Engine #1 when it came to help after I felled a tree onto the power lines. I didn’t recognize him. He says to me: “Oh you’re in that place up on the hill with the good view? I’ve been there a couple of times over the years.”
We are getting a taste of life here in New Vineyard.
We’re back in action!
Have continued to use the stove, but only intermittently. No all-day burns yet.
And we’ve made progress storing wood for next winter. We’ve cut, split, and stacked all of the wood that was in the woodyard.
Now, it’s on to recruit some new rounds. Happily, we have lots of wood left over from building the steps to Zach’s Sugar Shack Trail. When we haul that up, it’ll give us some very nice BTUs.
We said there’d be a test …
We’ve laid out this new format for your consideration.
Which do you like better? The traditional way or this new way?
That’s it for this week. Stay tuned for next week as post-Halloween we bring you Tales from the Transfer Station, the results of the survey, and more ….
