25 Acre Woods Digest (2021-08-02): Unpacking ...

All 162 boxes are now unpacked. That is, except for the other 281 stored in the garage.

We seem to be taking on a new hobby: Maine microbreweries

Two down so far.

Last night’s, Tumbledown Brewery, was listed as #1607, so we have some tough work ahead of us.

Zach, now installed with cat upstairs, approves of the new hobby.

Did your humble correspondent complain last week about the movers we hired to pack the truck?

If so, we humbly issue an apology. The 25 Acres is not a complaining sort of news source.

Except maybe about those movers, I mean, really, is this what a tidy truck should look like?

Ok, ok, ok, that story is so, like, Providence. Yesterday’s news. Moving ahead!

Dear readers, we understand your deep interest in our progress on firewood.

And we know that, as you pore over today’s mass media, you have come to expect intricate infographics.

Well, 25 Acres Digest delivers yet again. Our crack team has developed the Wood-O-Meter to keep you in the know.

Yes, we continue to make progress on the firewood. Roughly 5 cords cut, split, and stacked. Roughly three more to go.

Here are some “rounds” waiting to be split.

Those with keen eyes will see the glove placed in the picture for scale.

This is, of course, de rigueur to do in the firewood reddit that you probably follow as keenly as we do.

Those rounds come from our largest “volunteer” to date, maybe 80’ tall.

It’s hard to tell in the pic, but I landed it way off course, which means it got hung up in other trees. The top is maybe 30’ off the ground.

It’s maybe 15,000 pounds of wood.

That led to hours of carefully disassembling it from the back to the front. Much easier when you do it right.

And here I am working on the stump, making a friend to guard our front door.

Oh, ok, not really.

Maybe next year.

After we build the veggie garden. And fix the garage.

We’re now back in Providence where Michelle has two weeks of workshops.

I’ll be spackling picture holes.

Note to self: be careful where you step.

Is that mantle shelf supposed to be on the floor? Come in three segments?

As a heads up, I’ll be spending this week at the Great Congregation of Clearys in scenic Bethesda. The Grand Matriarch will be hosting Barbara and Steve as well as myself while Kevin and Francie try to monitor the circus.

Finally, our word of the week.

Our plan is to snarf some excellent wine while in Bethesda.

That’s all for now.
