25 Acre Woods Digest (2021-07-04): High Temps!

Happy Independence Day to you, faithful reader!

We had a spate of 97 degree days in Providence early in the week. And we've now returned to Maine, where today's high is 60 degrees. Yes, the fire is going, who would've thought?

Perhaps you would like to celebrate the day through your own personal energy independence? As always, you can learn more at Mainers United for Sustainable Heating (MUSH).

So long, big city life. Michelle and Chip are back to the 25 Acre Woods.

To prepare to leave the big city, your humble correspondent went on a rigorous tour. A different coffee shop each morning, so as to brew the best out of the big city.

Here’s the lobby of the old Biltmore Hotel in Providence. Decent coffee shop downstairs but a great space.

There was a drought while we were away. We've patched that up with three straight days of rain since we arrived.

Our Sponsor did get out to build Mini Vegetable Garden #2. To complement Micro Spice Garden #1 on the side of the house.

Are these but temporary? MUSH is now accepting applications for internships for for when we rent the bulldozer and build the terraces.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK !

How can one fit two house’s worth of stuff into one house?

The smaller one.

We’re not sure we can answer this.

The best answer will receive a bonus 25 Acre’s gift.*

In our rolling move, we've now compeleted two trips out of four. Upcoming dates:

  • Jul 16-18: Road trip NYC
(C&M cart Zora’s stuff to NY. Get bagels.)

  • Jul 19-21: Big Move
(We rent a 26’ truck to cart our stuff from Providence to Maine. Zach heads north to choices: prefer ax or chainsaw?

  • Aug 4-ish???: Side Trips!
C visits Bethesda, where Barbara and Steve will also be. Our Sponsor camps in Empty Manor, Providence.

  • Aug 15: The Final Countdown
M & C take our final items to Maine.

  • Aug 21-Varies: Cannonball Run
Zora, C, & M from Ketchikan to New Vineyard

Progress on the woodpile lags. Still have a whole row to go to complete Shed #2 (which is what’s needed for 2020-21)!

And, well, WINTER IS COMING!

I should get that done before Road Trip NYC. After that’ll, I'll just need another 4 cords for 2021-22. But I'll have the fall to do it.

WORD OF THE DAY !

Our final thought. What does this word mean?

Take a guess and then see here.

That’s it for this week.
