So, we have done a comprehensive test of shoppes in Farmington (our local town). Not so much in the way of coffee shoppers. But we have some downright primo ice cream. The place with the best soft serve offers picnic tables by a river. Nice! |

You’ll of course be wondering about progress on firewood. Shed 1 is now officially full. Sweet! (Or, maybe more like, smokey!) |
|
We put off building Shed 2 until next year. But I still dug out the floor for it to lay firewood down there. Just a first start on filling it. I had what I thought was a huge pile of logs to work with (down where the Billy Goat previously wandered off the trail). But now there's only one load left of that. Time to get back into the woods! |

On the other side of the country, our might-as-well-be-international correspondent Zora spent last week on a mountain-climbing course in Denali. Unbelievably gorgeous! A once-in-a-lifetime experience. Flew out in a plane: 4 victims + 2 guides. Slept in tents on a glacier. All survived. |
|
I put her photos through a filter to sharpen them up a bit. Hey, what’s for breakfast? |

Meanwhile, our local Tai Chi master is practicing dodging the black flies. The black flies won. Again. But July is coming…. |

Now that the leaves are out, we can start to figure out what kind of trees we have. Seems like a lot of red oak, some kind of maple, and something called pin cherry. All good news for firewood fans. There is one kind of wood that is *impossible* to split. Have not yet identified what kind that is. |

Not surprisingly, dogs seem to be a Maine thing. And while we get a constant stream of birds at the bird feeder, we are not supporting any mammals around the homestead. Well, except for that one squirrel who hangs around the bird feeder. That apparently doesn’t cut it. The dog union sent their rep over to try to entice us. |

Training continues for the New Vineyard Classic Half Marathon. On Saturday, I went quarter marathon distance (6.1 miles) on Saturday. That includes 950’ of climbing. Left me tuckered. During the coming week, I’ll tackle the New Vineyard Classic Hike-a-Thon. Same course: starts and ends at our front door. Should be 13. 2 miles but I’m not quite sure. (It goes over dirt roads and ATV trails in parts … not really on maps … can’t really drive it.) |
